Hi fellow knitter,

Welcome to my bio page.

Who Am I?

I’m Karen Wilson Wehrle, a knitter, tailor and writer, not necessarily in that order. This portrait of me is an oldie but a goodie. I haven’t changed much except for adding some years and shortening my hair a few inches.

I started my tailoring business at age 23 and used to hear, “What? YOU’RE the tailor?” Customers kept looking for white hair. I haven’t heard that in awhile, probably because now there’s some silver in the gold hair.

How I Learned to Knit

I’ve been a knitter off and on since around age 10 or 12. I learned out of a little green booklet that taught how to knit, crochet, tat and embroider. My aunt Ruth had to show me how to purl, because to me “knit backwards” meant un-knitting or tinking.

I turned out a few projects during summers off from school. I knit my non-sweater-wearing husband one and my daughter got a dress as a baby. They I got busy working.

All Work and No Play Is Nuts!

When I realized decades were going by while I was “too busy” to knit, I quit denying myself the pleasure. I redesigned a Wendy Bernard sweater pattern and knitted two alpaca sweaters for myself.

All Play and No Work Is Also Nuts!

In March, 2008 I joined Socks for Soldiers and I’ve been knitting socks ever since. It’s almost two years now and have knit 40 pairs and 40 beanies so far. What’s that you say? I’m a maniac?

Maybe so. Please join us. Hand-knit socks help show some love to our stressed out soldiers so far from home. Got more money than time? Help cover postage for mailing out the huge boxes of love.

I also run my eBay business selling vintage collectibles where a portion of my sales go to Socks for Soldiers.

Are You Frustrated When Your Knitting Doesn’t Fit?

Now I want to share my love of knitting and expertise as a professional tailor with you. If you’re a frustrated knitter or crocheter who can’t seem to make a sweater that fits, I’m here to help make your next damn sweater fit you like a glove.

NOT your sister or cousin or the tyke next door. YOU. Or whoever you want it to fit.

So in this blog I share what I know, knitting mistakes I’ve made (oh, yes!) and resources to help shorten your learning curve to knitting great-fitting hand-knits. Let me save you years of wasted time, money and hair-pulling screams.

Best,

Karen
